Program

The workshop will consist in three sessions:

1. Data from observation networks and infrastructures (in situ & satellite)

This session shall discuss variables and datasets from observation-based research networks and infrastructures, show availability, and define requirements. It will:

  • Provide a high level status report of different observing networks that are available or may become available to the community.
  • Defines requirements for interoperability and standardization.
  • Suggest challenges and opportunities for how these networks could be used, suggest types of data that is currently missing.

2. Model-data fusion approaches

Newest systems that use or have the potential to use in situ observations from several networks or from a combination of in situ and space observations will be presented. The session will:

  • Provide an overview of current CMIP5 model findings and shortcomings,
  • Define needs for verification of fluxes and emissions.
  • Outline the current available datasets available for benchmarking and data assimilation systems for land surface models.
  • Suggest datasets that are very much needed and identify challenges.

3. Outreach of carbon and GHG research

aiming at better communicating carbon research to the general public in the context of climate mitigation efforts. This session shall also provide a perspective to better link long-term observations to inventories.
